Enriching the Lives of Families

  • Our charitable giving mission is to support health, education and economic opportunities in our communities, with a focus on families.

Boys & Girls Clubs of America

Ross began working with Boys & Girls Clubs over 10 years ago with a shared goal of helping children achieve academic success, build confidence and lead healthy lives.

We’ve adopted clubs across the country where associates are encouraged to volunteer to support Power Hour, an after school homework assistance program. Associates also run school supply drives and speak at workshops on career readiness.

Additionally, as part of our new store opening celebrations, Ross makes donations to the neighboring Boys & Girls Club.

  • First Book

Literacy is one of the strongest predictors of a child’s future success – in school and in life. Yet in many neighborhoods across the country, kids don’t have books. To address this challenge, in 2009 dd’s DISCOUNTS’ customers and associates began a partnership with First Book, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing books and educational resources to children in need.

Through customer and Company donations, the “Help me read my first book” campaign provides funds to purchase new books. In 2011, the campaign resulted in more than 65,000 new books for children in neighboring communities. Our associates also support the effort by volunteering to read to children and distributing books to local organizations.

  • American Red Cross

Disasters touch the lives of many of our communities across the country. Supporting our neighbors in time of need is critical, which is why we partner with the Red Cross.

Ross has supported the Red Cross response to Hurricane Ike in September 2010, the wildfires in southern California in October 2007 and Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in September 2005. We also have contributed to many international relief efforts, including the March 2011 Japanese earthquake, the January 2010 earthquake in Haiti and the December 2004 tsunami in Indonesia.

  • The American Heart Association

Heart disease is the number one cause of death in America for women and men, yet most aren’t aware of the risks.

Since 2003 we’ve been working with the American Heart Association to support its work to raise awareness and improve the cardiovascular health for every member of the family.

Our support includes engaging our customers to donate to the American Heart Association during our February “Lend a Hand, Save a Life” campaign. We look to increase this impact through associate and supplier participation at other events. Together with our customers, associates and vendors, we have raised over $18 million.

  • At just 40 years old, Deborah suffered a heart attack. Doctors told her that 25 percent of her heart muscle was affected and without a heart transplant, she was unlikely to live another 10 years.

Over 20 years later, Deborah is active and works at a Ross Dress for Less store, thanks to the American Heart Association’s funding of a new procedure called “Map and Zap.” The innovative procedure repaired her heart without a transplant.

This experience has made Deborah even more engaged in the work Ross does to raise money and awareness on behalf of the American Heart Association. As Team Captain of her store’s annual fundraising campaign, Deborah is a true inspiration for her colleagues and customers. She invites customers to contribute at checkout by playing the song “Staying Alive,” while also organizing car washes and other events.

  • Additional Local Giving

In addition to our formal partners, Ross invests in organizations near the New York City and San Francisco Bay Area communities where our two largest offices are located, and to charities near Ross stores. In our New York City office we offer internships and scholarships to students interested in retail careers as part of the Fashion Scholarship Fund.

We also support local breast cancer, domestic violence and youth organizations, as well as Dress for Success and other causes by raising money through sample sales. We fund education opportunities for youth, including Mathletics, a partnership with the Oakland A's that inspires kids to learn math, and breast cancer services for women near our Pleasanton, California headquarters. In addition, nonprofits near our stores have the opportunity to request Ross gift cards. Read our community giving guidelines.
